Janice's garden transformation
Since moving into her SA Housing Trust home last September, Janice has been busy creating something special.
With a lifelong interest in gardening, she's wasted no time transforming her outdoor spaces into a welcoming and vibrant area.
In the front yard, Janice uncovered buried rocks and bricks and repurposed them into charming landscaping features. She's also refreshed existing plants and introduced new varieties, some generously donated by neighbouring tenants who were keen to help.
In the backyard, meanwhile, Janice has cleared weeds, established neat pathways, and created a thriving vegetable garden.
Through her local gardening club, Janice finds inspiration, exchanges ideas, and discounted plants. She’s already planning ahead for winter, when a new wave of colourful flowers will come into bloom.
Janice says gardening is something many tenants in the neighbourhood enjoy, and they motivate one another through their efforts. Trust staff saw this community spirit firsthand during the visit to Janice's home, with nearby tenants also busy working on their gardens.
According to Janice, it’s a friendly and respectful neighbourhood where everyone greets each other and otherwise enjoys the peace and quiet. One neighbour even gifted Janice a pair of old rocking chairs, which she repainted and now proudly displays on her veranda.
A big thank you to Janice for her hard work and for reaching out to us on Facebook so we could share her story.
If you’re a tenant doing great things at your Trust property, we’d love to hear from you too. Send us a message via our SA Housing Trust Facebook page.
