New crisis accommodation for women:

Project launched

Official launch of the New Generation Catherine House Project in the CBDEarlier this month, the SA Housing Trust (the Trust) proudly attended the official launch of the New Generation Catherine House project in the CBD. Work has commenced on a new eight-storey building that will provide 52 social housing apartments for 24/7 crisis accommodation for women. The new building will replace the existing Catherine House and offer a range of services, including:

  • A Women’s Respite and Recovery Centre
  • Education and training spaces
  • Craft and cooking areas
  • A secure outdoor garden and barbecue space
  • Self-contained apartments with private bathrooms, laundry, and space for small families.

The Trust, along with federal, state, and private funding, made the project possible. Housing Choices South Australia and Catherine House will own and manage the facility. It will continue to offer essential support to women, many of whom are escaping domestic violence, with both immediate crisis accommodation and long-term recovery services.

Morphettville redevelopment nearing completion

Aerial shot of nearly completed Morphettville redevelopmentConstruction of the final homes in our Morphettville redevelopment is now underway, bringing a close to this significant project.

An additional 13 homes are being built across two neighbouring sites, adding to the 22 affordable homes that have already been completed, and more than 30 new public homes delivered as part of the project.

The public housing has been built in a range of styles, including multiple single-storey detached dwellings, two-storey townhouses, a two-storey apartment, and a three-storey building serviced by lifts.

The SA Housing Trust has also invested in a major renewal of the nearby Appleby Reserve, complete with a new playground, shelter, barbecue, exercise equipment, and netball and basketball courts to give the families moving into the area a beautiful outdoor space to enjoy.

Projects like this highlight a smarter approach to building housing, where we're mixing public, affordable, and private homes together with green spaces to create diverse communities. By doing so, we're not only providing South Australians with homes, but a place where they can thrive.

More public housing in Adelaide's southern suburbs

More public housing located between Christies Beach and Morphett ValeMore public housing in Adelaide’s southern suburbs will soon be ready for tenants. The next group of newly built homes - located between Christies Beach and Morphett Vale - includes a mix of two- and four-bedroom properties, as well as dedicated Aboriginal housing.

These modern homes come in a variety of designs and layouts, with selected properties featuring solar hot water, two full bathrooms, a double garage, larger backyards, and dedicated laundries.

Beyond this group of homes, more developments are underway in the south, including properties being built in partnership with community housing providers to support South Australians with higher accessibility needs. We look forward to sharing more updates soon.

Building homes — and careers — for South Australians

Meet and Greet event held at Salisbury High School. We're not just investing in the homes of the future, we're also investing in the people who will be building them.

The SA Housing Trust was proud to help support two Apprentice Meet & Greet events recently, which helped link students undertaking Construction Pathway programs with prospective employers.

The events were held in both the northern and southern suburbs with more than 40 students from over 10 different schools attending. They joined a range of construction and trades employers in a "speed meet & greet" session where they were given the opportunity to network and share their resumés. Many of our own valued contractors came along to potentially meet their next apprentice.

The events were a partnership between the SA Housing Trust, the Department for Education, South Australia, CITB South Australia, SYC, ATEC, PEER and others.

Karra Reserve opening — a successful community celebration

SA Housing Trust housing officersEarlier this month the SA Housing Trust celebrated the opening of the Karra Reserve, a key part of the Seaton rejuvenation project. The public reserve is the first to be delivered as part of the broader redevelopment of the area, providing new green space for the community.

The event was a huge success, featuring a Welcome to Country, live music, free coffee, face painting, and lawn games, all contributing to a vibrant community celebration. It was also a great opportunity for tenants and local residents to connect with the Renewal SA Engagement Team and learn more about Stage 3 green space planning.

Department of Housing and Urban Development Minister Nick Champion spoke at the event, highlighting the significant progress made in Phase 1 of the project, including the completion of the first reserve and the relocation of tenants into the brand-new public housing. We also had the pleasure of meeting four of the first tenants who are already settling into their new homes - and they are thrilled with the results.

New Disability and Accessibility Policy launched

The SA Housing Trust is committed to supporting South Australians living with disability - over a third of our public housing tenancies include people living with disability. Our reformed Disability and Accessibility Policy and Procedure went live on 12 November 2025, introducing a new service framework and updated processes for accessibility modifications, eligibility and relocations.

These changes are an exciting new approach to the way we respond to the housing needs of people living with disability.

AHURI National Housing Conference

SA Housing Trust Chief Executive and Executives at the National Housing Conference.Staff from across the SA Housing Trust attended the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) National Housing Conference (NHC) 2025 in Perth last month.

The NHC, held every two years in partnership between state and territory governments and AHURI, is the largest housing conference in Australasia.

The event attracts more than 1,000 delegates and serves as a key forum to discuss housing challenges and shape the future of housing in Australia.

Our staff attended various plenary sessions and workshops, with both Julie-Anne Burgess and Department for Housing and Urban Development Chief Executive David Reynolds hosting sessions.

Several important insights emerged; there's a strong need for more varied housing models and tenures, and delegates highlighted the importance of providing better security for private renters to keep them in the sector. There was support for improved community engagement and co-design of services, and acknowledgement that while increasing supply is critical it is not the only solution. Rental reforms, more modern construction methods, and diverse home types are also necessary to tackle the housing crisis.

Beyond the conference, delegates toured homes in Western Australia and met with Development WA and the WA Department of Housing and Works to gain insights into new ways of working.
