Leverne is a proud Adnyamathanha woman who shares her culture with her community, including SA Housing Trust staff.
A tenant in Whyalla, she holds a strong connection to Country, and works to ensure that future generations maintain that connection.
Leverne has created a yarning and cooking area in her backyard where she brings together her children, grandchildren and others to participate in cultural practices. She also considers her neighbours and has worked with both the Trust and the local council to follow rules and use the space respectfully.
Leverne has also visited the Whyalla office to share her cultural knowledge with the team, helping staff build their awareness and strengthening their understanding of how to support Aboriginal tenants more effectively.
The Trust is fortunate to have many tenants from diverse cultural backgrounds. We’re grateful to Leverne and others who contribute to their communities and allow us to share their stories.
