Proud SA Housing Trust tenant Julie is thriving in her new home in Whyalla. She moved into the property in July, one of more than 40 new public homes built in the region, and says it's been life-changing.

'It's the most beautiful thing to happen to me since I lost my son,' Julie says, recalling the tragic incident several years ago.

Julie previously rented privately but struggled to keep up with costs after a medical condition forced her out of work. Returning to the Trust has given her stability and peace of mind.

When Trust staff visited Julie recently it was clear how much she treasures her home.

'I've never had a bedroom with two windows - it's light and bright and I love it. I've never even had a closet where I could put my shoes before,' she says.

Julie's family shares her commitment to sharing for the property.

'I don’t even like my grandchildren touching things without washing their hands. My daughter knows not to park her car on the driveway in case it drips oil. I want this place to be taken care of and stay beautiful so it still looks this good for years to come,' she says.

'It’s given me my forever home you know, I could cry saying that.'

We're thrilled to hear that Julie is thriving in her new home!
