A major refurbishment of public housing at Drew Court in Oaklands Park is progressing, with early works now underway to renew one of South Australia’s largest public housing sites.
The $23.5 million project is being delivered by the SA Housing Trust and is funded through the Australian Government’s Social Housing Accelerator Payment (SHAP), supporting the delivery of modern, energy-efficient homes for South Australians who need them most.
The redevelopment will upgrade 93 existing walk-up flats, originally built in the 1950s and 1960s, ensuring they continue to provide safe, secure and comfortable housing for future tenants.
Jaytex has been appointed as the builder to deliver the upgrades, with works to be carried out in stages across the site.
Early works, including asbestos removal and initial demolition, are already underway. Major renovation works are expected to commence shortly, with construction activity increasing over the coming months. Nearby residents may notice increased activity, including site fencing, workers and vehicles during this time.
The project will deliver significant improvements across the site, including structural upgrades, new roofing, windows and doors, refurbished kitchens and bathrooms, improved fire safety and security, enhanced energy efficiency, and renewed landscaping and shared outdoor spaces.
This investment will transform Drew Court into a modern, high-quality public housing community, providing safe, comfortable homes and supporting better outcomes for tenants.
